Each month in 2010, bonus goals will be introduced for that month. Any travel bug that meets these goals will gain bonus points towards their score. To earn these points, a travel bug must meet the listed requirements. The goal can be met but if the requirements are not fulfilled, the points will not be earned. Goals for each month will begin at midnight the morning of the first day of the month and end at midnight of the last day of the event, and will change each month (so January goals can not be met in February, and so on).  If you feel you have helped reach a bonus goal, feel free to brag by mentioning it in your log.  Unless otherwise noted, any dipped visits WILL NOT count towards bonus points.  Unless the goal states otherwise, goals can only be met once.

JANUARY GOALS

  • 5 points for visiting at least five caches during January.  Does not include Events or Earthcaches.
  • 10 points for visiting an Earthcache.  Photo proof must be provided and GC Code listed in a Note log on the TB page, along with mention of the bugs visit in your Earthcache log.  Since TB’s cannot be placed in Earthcache, all other regular goals will not be tallied.  This will not be counted as a dip.  Goal can be met 3 times in January, but no more than once by the same cacher.
  • 15 points for visiting two caches whose owner name begins with a number.  Must be two different owners.

FEBRUARY GOALS

  • 5 points for visiting a virtual, a webcam, AND a letterbox hybrid during the month of February.  Normal dipping rules apply, so visits must be made by different cachers.  All three types must be visited to receive the points.
  • 10 points for Planes, Trains, & Automobiles.  To meet this goal, a travel bug must have it’s picture taken with a full size plane, train, or automobile in the photo (no toys or miniatures allowed).  A travel bug must get it’s photo taken with all three during the month of February to count, but all three do not need to be in the same photo.  Must be able to clearly identify the plane, train, or automobile in the photo.  The train can be a single unit of a full-length train (i.e.: a single train car).
  • 15 points for getting a picture taken with a Travel Bug that has traveled over 10,000 miles (at the time of the meeting).  Item must be identified (by name or reference number) in your log to verify the distance requirement.

MARCH GOALS

  • 5 points for getting a picture taken with a cacher’s own house pet.  Goal may be met up to three times, but only once per cacher, per pet (i.e.: a couple, each with their own geocaching account, cannot each post a photo of the TB with the same pet).  Up to the discretion of the scoring volunteers to determine if the same pet is in two different photos.  Photo must be of a house pet, not a wild animal or a captive animal at a zoo or similar location.
  • 10 points for visiting caches in three different states during the course of March.  Does not include any caches that travel bugs were in as of the start of the month.  Must be caches that travel bugs are dropped into AFTER the start of the month.  Normal dipping rules apply.
  • 15 points for visiting a Wherigo cache.  Must provide a photo of the Travel Bug with the completed cartridge screen, whether it is on a Colorado, Oregon, or Pocket PC.  The photo may count towards the Photo goal, following normal photo rules.

APRIL GOALS

  • 5 points for traveling over 500 miles in a single jump. Can be met twice for a total of 10 points.
  • 10 points for being placed in a cache in a state whose name starts with “A” or “W”. Can count once per letter (i.e.: once for the letter A and once for the letter W), for a total of 20 points overall. If the racer is already a state starting with A or W as of the beginning of April, that state cannot be used for this goal.
  • 15 points for getting a picture taken at any state capital. State capital must be clearly identified in the photo. Can only be met once.

MAY GOALS

  • 5 points for attending a WWFM event (or World Wide Flash Mob). See PODCACHER.COM for more info.
  • 10 points for attending a 10 Year Anniversary Event. Can only be met once (there are some areas already planning more than one event at different times of the day). Visit GEOCACHING LOST & FOUND for info about the planning of these events. This event is planned for the weekend of April 30th -3rd so visit the event calender at Geocaching.com to find an event in your area.
  • SPECIAL CREATIVITY BONUS: Design a comic strip about a travel bug’s visit to a cache. 5 points awarded per panel up to 15 points for a three panel strip. The comic strip must make sense (so either include dialogue or some kind of caption). Mood is up to the artist; can be comedy, horror, romance, etc. At the end of the month, we will have voting to determine the most popular. An additional 30 points will be awarded to the winner.

JUNE GOALS

  • 5 points for visiting a Puzzle Final. Must involve a puzzle that the travel bug handler has not found before. In other words, no revisiting puzzles that have already been found before, it must be new find. Goal may be met twice, but only once per cacher, and it has to be a different puzzle for the second person to complete the goal.
  • 10 points for meeting any combination of five regular race goals in a single cache drop. If you feel you have met this, please mention attempting this goal in your log to alert that TB’s volunteer scorekeeper. All normal race rules must be followed while attempting this goal. Can only be met once.
  • 15 Points for visiting two caches whose owner name begins with either the letters K, Q, or Z. Each cache must be placed by different owners.

JULY GOALS – GEOWOODSTOCK SPECIAL

  • 5 points for getting a photo of the travel bug with a Groundspeak Lackey. Photo does not count towards normal photo goals. Hmmm…maybe you could advertise the race to them while getting the photo. Goal can only be met once.
  • 10 points for visiting one of the “Geocaching Trifecta” caches. The Trifecta includes the Project A.P.E. cache, the Original Stash Tribute Plaque, and the Groundspeak Headquarters. Must be accompanied by a photo of either the cache container for the Project A.P.E. cache, the plaque for the Original Stash Tribute Plaque, or some recognizable item at Groundspeak Headquarters, with the racing TB in the photo. Goal can be met up to three times, once for each of the three caches. Photos tied to this goal will not count towards normal photo goals. Normal dipping rules apply, so each cache must be completed by a different geocacher.
  • 15 points for attending GeoWoodstock VIII. This goal is in addition to the standard MEGA-Event goal (in other words, attendance will gain both the normal MEGA-Event points and the monthly bonus points). BONUS – An additional 15 points will be awarded if the travel bug has it’s photo taken with TripCyclone…the race organizer. It is up to the person handling the travel bug to figure out how to meet this Bonus Bonus Goal. Hints on how to identify TripCyclone at GeoWoodstock will be dropped over the course of the month. A well planned person might be able to meet this goal at one of the various side events tied into GeoWoodstock. Photos tied to this goal will not count towards normal photo goals.

August GOALS

Can count once per letter (i.e.: once for the letter O, once for the letter S, and once for the letter V), for a total of 30 points overall. If the racer is already a state starting with O, S, or V as of the beginning of August, that state cannot be used for this goal.
