January Rankings

The January Points Update is done.  I’ve created a new RANKINGS PAGE to display the ranks of all entries to the race.  It is under the 2010 Rankings tab above. Last year, we only posted the Top Ten.  This year, the rankings will display the current rank, TB Name, Reference # (for those who want to see the TB page), and the current score.  Please remember that this is based on the scores from the previous calender month and does not reflect current, at this moment, rankings or scores.

Also, I wanted to post a picture of one of the prize sets that got donated to use by GEOTEES.COM. Here is what they donated:

You are looking at two t-shirst, one geocoin, two bison tubes, and a screwtop micro container.

I am still working on putting together a contestants page like we had last year.  Once I have gathered all the data, I’ll work on putting together the page.

Last minute volunteers needed

Okay.  So we are about two weeks late for getting the January update in place on the site.  At this point, some information has come through in the last few days that is resulting in me putting out this all-call for some last minute volunteers.  Let’s explain.

We have a list of eleven volunteers besides myself.  Each volunteer is in charge of scoring a particular set of Travel Bugs each month.  As of right now, I was awaiting the results from two volunteers.  After a few e-mails, I finally got in touch with them and have been informed that due to some recent changes for them, between work and life, they are not able to help with scoring.

With that said, I am looking for two replacement scoring volunteers.  Before you offer help, here are a few requirements:

  1. You have Microsoft Excel.
  2. You can devote between 30-90 minutes, once a month, to updating scores for your assigned travel bugs.  Preferably around the end of the month.
  3. You are willing to stick with it through the 2010 calender year.
  4. You are able to maintain communication with me if there are any questions, problems, or delays.

The time issue varies, usually depending on whether any dipping has occurred.  With no dips, one volunteer reported finishing the actual scoring process in about 30-40 minutes.  With distractions, I handled mine in 90 minutes.  Times will seem longer the first month or two until you get into a rhythm.  One volunteer put each item on a watchlist and updated as they were moved, spreading out the time over the course of the month.

If you think you might be interested in helping with this, please contact me through MY GEOCACHING PROFILE. First come, first served, though if I get extras I may have you be a reserve volunteer if a problem develops.

Once we get this done, the site will be updated with the January rankings.
